Pretoria Capitals looking to get back in playoff contention

The Capitals topped the league table at the end of the group stage in 2023, only to collapse and lose to the Sunrisers in the final. Last season they lost six of their 10 group matches as they missed the playoffs.

Kyle Verreynne (256 runs, ave 64.00) and Will Jacks (245, ave 27.22) were the Capitals’ best batters last season, and both scored a century. Wayne Parnell (14 wickets at 17.35) and Daryn Dupavillon (9 at 28.22) were the most successful with the ball, but their contributions weren’t enough to get them into the playoffs.

One of the big acquisitions for the season is Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who bats at a strike-rate of 146.80 in T20s. Evin Lewis (West Indies), Rookie Keagan Lion-Cachet, England’s Will Smeed and Steve Stolk make up their new recruits for the season.

There is plenty of pace in the squad and some spin options, but they look light on the batting front. Skipper Rilee Rossouw could be a key player for the Capitals, but has yet to light up the SA20, averaging just 17.90 after the first two seasons.
