Last time out, the Scorchers lost by four wickets to the Sydney Thunder at home. Finn Allen top scored with a blistering 31-ball 68 while Cooper Connolly scored 43* to continue his good season. They ended on 177, which was below par after the start Allen gave them.

The bowlers toiled hard to keep the Thunder in check throughout. Lance Morris was brilliant, taking 3-22 in four overs, but the Thunder managed to take the victory off the final ball of the match.

Selection has been pretty consistent for the Scorchers throughout, but they have been reliant on Connolly for runs. More batsmen need to get some runs if they are to stay in the playoff challenge.

Melbourne Renegades Form

The Melbourne Renegades started the season well, but their form has fallen off a cliff. They have five losses in seven games and have lost their last three on the bounce.

In their last fixture, the Renegades lost the Melbourne derby to the Stars, going down by five wickets in a tight contest. The top order once again failed, which meant Jacob Bethell (49) and Jonathan Wells (45) had to get them to a respectable 168 in 20 overs.

The Renegades themselves took three early wickets but couldn’t stop the flow of runs. In the end, the Stars won with two balls to spare.

The Renegades bowling has been good on all accounts this season, but their top order isn’t consistently managing to score enough runs.
