Australia vs South Africa Preview
South Africa and Australia were both victorious in their opening games of the tournament, so the winner here is very likely to qualify for the semi-final. Given their superior bowling lineup, I'm backing South Africa to win it.

Head to Head
South Africa have won four of their last five ODI matches against Australia. They last met in November 2023, a game Australia won by three wickets.
Australia Form
Australia came into the ICC Champions Trophy as world champions but also missing several key players through injury. Their form was also poor having lost a three-match series prior to the tournament to Sri Lanka.
However, the Aussies, as they always tend to do on the big occasion, won their first game against an out-of-form England side. Bowling first on a very good batting wicket, the Aussies conceded 351 runs – a score that would win most matches.
Australia, however, came out firing despite losing two early wickets. Matthew Short held things together at the top with 63 runs but it was Josh Inglis’ 120 off 86 balls that saw Australia home with 15 balls to SPARE. Alex Carey also scored 69 off 63 balls.

Conditions in Rawalpindi could force a change among the bowlers if more spin is required, but other than that, I expect Australia to remain unchanged.
South Africa Form
South Africa also got their Champions Trophy off to a solid start with a 107-run victory over Afghanistan in Karachi. The Proteas batted first, scoring 315 runs in their 50 overs.
Ryan Rickelton’s fine form continued with 103 runs while captain, Temba Bavuma added 58 runs. Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram both scored 52 runs, the latter unbeaten and off just 36 balls.
Kagiso Rabada dominated with the ball after the batsmen did their job. The fast bowler took 3-36 in 8.4 overs as Afghanistan were all out for 208 runs.
South Africa Injuries & Team News
I expect the batting lineup to remain the same for this fixture, however, if another spinner is required in Rawalpindi, we could see Tabraiz Shamsi come in for Lungi Ngidi. Heinrich Klaasen wasn’t risked in the last game, and should he be fit for this one, we could see Temba Bavuma open with Tony de Zorzi making way.
Verdict
South Africa are backed to win with Ryan Rickelton to top score. Josh Inglis is backed in the same market after his heroics last time out.
