- Australia’s Josh Inglis scored 100+ runs in his last ODI innings.
Head to Head
Australia have won all four previous ODIs against Afghanistan. They last met in 2023 at the ODI Cricket World Cup. Afghanistan were in the pound seat in that game but Glenn Maxwell pulled off a miracle innings to see the Aussies sneak home.
Afghanistan Form
Afghanistan have a chance to qualify for the semi-final of the Champions Trophy but simply must win this game. Victory guarantees a last four berth while defeat secures a flight home.
After losing their opening game comfortably to South Africa, Afghanistan bounced back with a magnificent performance against England. It started poorly as Afghanistan found themselves 37-3 batting first but an incredible 177 runs by Ibrahim Zadran took Afghanistan to a 325 total.
In a tight run chase, England took the game down to the wire, but the Afghans held on to bowl England out for 317, securing an eight-run victory.
Afghanistan Injuries & Team News
I don’t see Afghanistan making changes after such a good performance. However, as always, conditions or late injuries could necessitate a change.
Australia Form
Australia are in prime position to qualify with three points after two games. They England in their opening fixture before rain ensured their fixture against South Africa couldn’t go ahead – the teams shared the points.
While disappointing, Australia will go through if they manage to win this game. It won’t be straightforward though as any will remember the 2023 World Cup game between these two.
Afghanistan had Australia on the ropes and should have won the game. However, Glenn Maxwell’s heroics got the Aussies home when no one thought they could win it.
Australia Injuries & Team News
This is not a game Australia can take lightly. I am backing them to pick the same side.
Verdict
Josh Inglis is backed in the run scoring markets for Australia while we cannot look past Ibrahim Zadran for Afghanistan after he scored 177 in his last game.
