Multan Sultans vs Islamabad United Predictions
This is the fourth year in a row that the Sultans have made the final, winning in 2021 and being runners-up the next two years. Islamabad were champions in two of the first three seasons in the PSL. They made the playoffs in five of their other six seasons without making the final. Last season they finished in fourth place.
- Multan Sultans’ Usman Khan has scored 96, 106*, 100*, 21 & 36 in his last 5 innings.
- Multan Sultans’ Mohammad Rizwan has scored 58, 32, 20 & 69 in his last 5 innings.
- Islamabad United’s Martin Guptill has scored 102, 56 & 34 in his last 3 innings.
- Islamabad United’s Imad Wasim has scored 30* & 59* in his last 3 innings.
Head-to-Head
The two sides have met 15 times over the years, with the Sultans winning eight and losing seven of those matches. The Sultans have won three of the last five matches between the sides. Their last three meetings all went down to the last two balls, Islamabad winning last year in March by two wickets and this year by three wickets, while the Sultans won this year by five wickets.
Multan Sultans Form
The Sultans earned their place in the final by beating Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier (N) by seven wickets with nine balls to spare.
Sultans restricted Zalmi to 146/7 off their 20 overs, thanks to superb bowling from Usama Mir (2/16) and Chris Jordan (2/28).
The Sultans reached their target in the 19th over for the loss of just three wickets. Yasir Khan top-scored with 54 off 37 balls.
Multan Sultans Team News
Multan Sultans are in good form and are unlikely to make any changes to their team.
Islamabad United Form
Islamabad earned their place in the final by beating the Gladiators by 39 runs in Eliminator 1, and then beating Zalmi by five wickets with six balls to spare in Eliminator 2.
Zalmi posted a challenging 185/5 off their 20 overs, Naseem Shah (3/30) performing the best with the ball for Islamabad.
Islamabad collapsed to 21/3 before Martin Guptill (34) stabilised the innings before Imad Wasim (59* off 40 balls) and Haider Ali (52* off 29) pulled off a miraculous chase, hitting the winning runs off the last ball of the 19th over.
Islamabad United Team News
There are no injury reports from the Islamabad United squad.
Verdict
I am backing Multan Sultans to win. I am also backing Usman Khan to top score for Multan Sultans.
Martin Guptill is a good bet to top score for Islamabad United.
