Head to Head
Hobart Hurricanes have won four of their last five games against the Renegades. Last season, the side from Hobart did a double on the Melbourne outfit.
Melbourne Renegades Form
The Melbourne Renegades have not been great over the last few seasons, although they did make the playoffs in the 2022/23. Last season, the Renegades finished seventh and finished bottom in the three seasons after winning the BBL in 2018/19.
This season started off decently for the Renegades despite a five-wicket loss to the Sydney Sixers. Batting first, the Renegades scored 169 in 20 overs. Tim Seifert top scored with an impressive 55 off 42 balls.
Unfortunately, the bowlers struggled, and the Sixers chased the score down with nine balls to spare. Kane Richardson was the most economical bowler at 7.66 runs to the over.
Melbourne Renegades Injuries & Team News
Josh Brown was fantastic with the bat last season for the Brisbane Heat and they will hope he continues that form after the move to Melbourne. Jacob Bethell will only join the side in the coming days while Nathan Lyon is still in the midst of a Test series.
Hobart Hurricanes Form
The Hobart Hurricanes are the only side other than the Melbourne Stars who have yet to win the BBL. They have always been there and thereabout, never finishing bottom, but also never quite dominating the tournament.
Last season, the Hurricanes finished fifth and have finished in either fifth or sixth in the last four seasons. Their one promising season came in 2018/19 when they topped the table but lost in the semis.
This is the first game of the season for the Hurricanes so they will be eager to get off to a strong start.
Hobart Hurricanes Injuries & Team News
The Hobart Hurricanes will need some key players to fire consistently if they are to make a run for the BBL title. Shai Hope is an astute signing while Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and Tim David can win the game alone on any given day.
Verdict
The Hurricanes are backed to win with Ben McDermott tipped to top score. For the Renegades, Tim Seifert is backed in the same market.
