  • Outstanding batting and high-class bowling set Washington up for a fine season.
  • Will look to build on their third-place finish after three wins from five matches in 2023.
  • MLC starts on 5 July, with the final set for 28 July.

Season preview

Their third-place finish in 2023 was ruined by a single bad batting performance in the Eliminator. No shortage of batters who can hit big, including SA-born Andries Gous who batted superbly in the World Cup, but an in-form pair of Glenn Maxwell and Travis head could take them all the way to the final. Lots of spin and pace, led by South Africa’s Marco Jansen and Kiwi Lockie Ferguson.

New players

Aussie power-hitter Travis Head will be a massive boost to the season (although there are doubts about his participation), along with Aussies Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has struggled with the bat in T20s but has phenomenal ability, and is economical with the ball, while fellow Kiwi Lockie Ferguson is a tricky right-arm quick. Also signed are Aussie medium-pacers Jack Edwards and Andrew Tye.

Key players

Akeal Hosein, Andries Gous, Glenn Maxwell, Lockie Ferguson, Marco Jansen, Rachin Ravindra, Steven Smith and Travis Head.
