It will take a brave person to bet against India on home soil given the form they are in. I am not willing so the value for me is in the run-scoring markets. I’m backing the impeccable Virat Kohli to do the business again.

India have won three of their last five ODIs against Australia. In the group stage of this World Cup, India comfortably beat the Aussies by six wickets.

India Form

India have been by some distance the best side at the World Cup to date. They won all nine of their round-robin games before beating New Zealand in the semi-final.

In that semi-final, India batted first, amassing a huge 397 runs. Shubman Gill scored 80 runs while Virat Kohli hit 117. Shreyas Iyer scored 105 off just 70 balls to steer India to a commanding score.

While the Black Caps threatened on occasion, India were always in control with the ball. Mohammed Shami was superb, taking 7-57 to lead India to a 70-run victory.

India should play an unchanged side from the semi-final.

Australia Form

Australia lost their opening two games of the World Cup to India and South Africa but bounced back to win their next seven to qualify in third place.

In the semi-final, the Aussies bowled first and superbly to restrict South Africa to 24-4. While the Proteas recovered to score 212 runs, it was an under-par score on a tough wicket.

Travis Head (62) and David Warner (29) got Australia off to a superb start in the chase, reaching 60 in six overs. Thereafter the South African spinners took control with regular wickets and were well in the game late on.

However, Australia’s lower order provided enough runs to see them home by three wickets.

Unless there are any injuries Australia should go into this final unchanged.

Verdict

India v Australia

India are backed to be too good for Australia. My best bet is for in-form Virat Kohli to score 50+ runs and top score for India.

The Aussie batsmen have been a bit inconsistent so I'm going with Travis Head to top score.
